"The greatest achievements were at first and for a time dreams. The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg, and a waking angel stirs in the highest vision of the soul. Dreams are the seedlings of realities." by James Allen, from As a Man Thinketh

I am now retired, but most recently worked in employee benefits, and spent a large part of my working life in higher education/student services college administration as the Assistant Dean of an art school. I am currently pursuing my love of art and writing with the hope of becoming a published illustrator of my own books. I acted as Art Director for tearsofthephoenix.org during the publication of Ripple Effect which supported renovation of the public libraries in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I completed my M.Ed. degree in 2004 with a partial focus on GLBT issues in higher education, and I have 2 undergraduate degrees - one in psychology and one in fine arts.

One of my original fantasy short stories, "The Promise" was published in Marion Zimmer Bradley's FANTASY Magazine, and currently I have a strong interest in writing YA fantasy fiction that introduces/explores gay or gender issues.

I've won awards for my artwork, and done a little magazine illustration. My Wraeththu artwork, Portrait of the Tigron, won the 2010 Rosatide art competition. Other published artwork I've done was the cover for the book, Ripple Effect, published by tearsofthephoenix.org and the artwork for Sharon Stone's character in the movie Last Dance. My current goal is to illustrate books, and my dream is to write AND illustrate one or more of my own.

Favorite genres are fantasy and science fiction, favorite authors include: Neil Gaiman, Patricia McKillip, Dan Simmons, Nancy Springer, Diane Duane, Storm Constantine, Scott Lynch, Jane Yolen, Jim Grimsley, Ursula K. LeGuin, Anne McCaffrey, Melanie Rawn, Guy Gaviel Kay, Michael Crichton, J.R.R. Tolkien, Neal Stephenson, Clive Barker, N.D. Wilson, and J.K. Rowling. I also love Jane Austin and the historical romances of M.M. Kaye. Favorite fantasy artists are Michael Whelan and Kinuko Y. Craft, favorite non-fantasy artists are Janet Fish, John Singer Sargent and Maxfield Parrish to name only three. Favorite illustrators are Shaun Tan and David Wiesner.

I spend my free time reading, writing, making art and sometimes playing computer games. I've written some music as well. Favorite computer games - hands down, the Myst games. Recently, I contributed an original 3D designed object to the video game Obduction, produced by Cyan, the makers of Myst. And I've spent about ten years deeply involved in the on-line Harry Potter fandom. :)

Please feed my fishies! They are always hungry! :D
